The Delhi government issued a 15-day ban on famous snack Maggi noodles after reports that the snack contained high levels of lead.
The announcement was made on Wednesday about two weeks after initial concerns about Maggi noodles were raised in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
“I ordered nationwide testing of the packaged noodle,”India’s food minister Ram Vilas Paswan said.
Maggi is a big seller for Nestle in India, with annual sales of about 15bn rupees ($235m; £149m).
The report of tests in Delhi showed that 10 out of 13 samples contained lead beyond the permissible limit.
